Wouldn't want to work there myself, but to somebody on HN who's trying to "race their browser" it seemed a feasible workaround.

That was a bit of creative license. I'm aware that's not exactly what is happening and know that there are workarounds (which I use), but it definitely can feel like that, and given the context of the thread, I thought it made sense.
