Some say XtraROM is used for Switch game cartridges, but what is this chip? PROM or just high endurance write-once Flash?


for the Switch they are using non-volatile flash storage. Even though "ROM" is in the name, it's still a flash based storage (dubbed HybridFlash by Macronix). I read somewhere that their stated lifetime is ~20 years, which means they won't last nearly as long as their NES/SNES forebears.
