The whole newsletter archive is worth a look. The step-by-step account of engineering in this series is pretty remarkable. The author talks through process and experiment and does the math where you can see it.

As someone chronically uninterested in sports generally (have tried), I do love seeing the occasional innovations in equipment that may or may not take off and change (some aspect of) the game.

Sounds like a modest, competent founder. I wish him the best!

It’s buried but there’s more to the story, there’s a part 22 linked in this original and pottertheotter linked to part 27: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33009134 so he’s taking off.

And as an aside, part 22 has a picture of the author and I love it when my (based on stereotypes and prejudices) expectations get completely upended.

How is that guy not selling one of these to every goalie in the NHL right now?

He recently met with the SJ Sharks. They are interested but want to make sure it really works well. https://surjan.substack.com/p/an-inventors-quest-for-the-nhl...

That version looks much nicer too

It doesn't work yet - he is making progress though! The blog seems good from what little I've read.

I'm sure this will take off.

Why aren't those made out of clear plastic?

If I had to guess, either condensation, or the thickness required would distort things, but I honestly don't know either.

He also has a SAAB. An indirect vouch as good as Virgin Galactic in my book.
