For those who are unaware of the significance of this statement, Walter Bright wrote the Zortec C compiler for DOS (eventually rebranded as Symantec C) which he later extended to be the first compiler that translated C++ directly to machine code without first going through C as an intermediary language and is currently the lead author of the D programming language and its DMD compiler. This man knows compilers!
